Henri Lloyd is a British clothing manufacturer established in Manchester in 1963 that specialises in making clothes for sailing, yachting and golfing.
With a heritage embedded in nautical innovation, Henri Lloyd’s history ensues a prestigious expedition. From creating groundbreaking fabrics for sailing clothes to defining the zeitgeist for Italian youths, Henri Lloyd’s contribution to global design and fashion is impressive.
The original Henri Lloyd, Henri Strzelecki was a soldier in the Polish Army. Settling in Manchester at the end of the Second World War, Strzelecki or ”Mr Henri” as he became known, studied textiles and design before working with local clothing companies in Manchester.
As a keen sailor, in the 1960s, Mr Henri realised the potential of a technical fabric, Bri-Nylon. Forming Henri Lloyd Limited in 1963, Mr Henri pioneered the use of these technical fabrics, closures and safety features within sailing clothing and consequently he revolutionised the world of sailing. The first non-corrosive zip made of nylon, the introduction of a Velcro closure in waterproof garments, and the hand taping of seams as an alternative to varnishing, were all Henri Lloyd’s unique innovations.
In 1966, Sir Francis Chichester was the first man to circumnavigate the globe and he was decked out in Henri Lloyd. In 1979, the Transglobe Expedition, the first round the world journey, via the poles, was led by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, with himself and all his crew, safely protected in Henri Lloyd’s foul weather gear.
Henri Lloyd’s focus on developing new technology allowed innovative thinking to be a part of the design process. In 1994, his high performance breathable foul weather gear, proved to be the most significant revolution since the introduction of Bri-Nylon. Henri Lloyd’s breathing range used Gore-Tex for the first time, and it went through over 22,000 hours of round the world testing at sea, before it was sold to customers. In 2001 Henri Lloyd’s TP3 Reflex Jacket and Hi-Fit Trouser won the Design Award METS, at the Marine Equipment Trade Show in Amsterdam.
Mr Henri’s achievements were a result of his visionary ideas and dedication to his work. In 1946 he was awarded both Polish and British military medals, and in 1985 he was given the MBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, This followed in 1986 and 1987 by two Queens awards for export achievements.
In 1984 the brand took a new turn and became fashionable. The Milan Scooter Society adopted a style-focused uniform of Timberland deck shoes, Levi’s 501’s and the Henri Lloyd Consort Original sailing jacket. Henri Lloyd’s clothing and accessories quickly became an essential fashion accessory for Europe’s image savvy men.
As a developing lifestyle brand, Henri Lloyd then worked with Italian designer Olmes Carretti to capitalise on the Henri Lloyd’s heritage of British attitude, and fuse with Italian design sophistication. The collections combined innovative materials, natural fabrics, traditional skills and the signature bold use of colour.
The mid 1990’s heralded a new important chapter, with the launch of Henri Lloyd Black Label. A swerve collection linked Italian inspired sportswear with technically innovative fabrics and was designed by Massimo Goggi. The label was so successful, that it was recognised as defining fashion at that time, and in 1997 Henri Lloyd was awarded as Fashion Brand of the Year in the UK.

Paul & Shark was founded by Billy Mac in 1921 in Masnago, Trezzano sul Naviglio, less than 10km from Milan. The company started off as a knitting mill producing and trading under its own name. Sportswear for men was introduced in 1977. Since then, ladies, cadet and golf collections have been introduced. Paul & Shark stores can be found worldwide. In the UK the brand is commonplace in the casual football scene / style, especially with followers of northern clubs, most notably Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday. The brand does not have quite the same notoriety as Stone Island, but Paul & Shark has largely become a logo recognisable for members of hooligan gangs / firms.

Ralph Lauren (born Ralph Lifshitz on October 14, 1939) is an American fashion designer and business executive. He is most notable for his Polo Ralph Lauren clothing brand.
Life
Ralph Lauren was born Ralph Rueben Lifshitz in The Bronx to Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants from Belarus: Fraydl (Kotlar) and Frank Lifshitz, a house painter.
From a young age he started working after school to earn money to buy suits. A four-year younger Calvin Klein, lived in the same Bronx neighborhood but it is not known if they ever met while living there.
Lauren attended the Salanter Academy Jewish Day School followed by MTA (now known as the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy), before eventually graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1957.
n MTA Lauren was known by his classmates for selling ties to his fellow students. In his Clinton yearbook he stated under his picture that he wanted to be a millionaire.
Other notables who attended this school include Burt Lancaster, Robert Klein, and Stan Lee. At age 16, Ralph's brother Jerry changed their last name from Lifshitz to Lauren (his brother Lenny retained the name Lifshitz for many years). During the summers, Lauren attended Camp Roosevelt (Monticello)
He went to the Baruch School of Business and Civic Administration of the City College of New York (now known as Baruch College) where he studied business, although he dropped out after two years. From 1962 to 1964 he served in the United States Army. After his discharge in 1968, he married Ricky Low-Beer. He did not attend fashion school, but worked for Brooks Brothers as a salesman. In 1967, with the financial backing of Norman Hilton, Lauren opened a necktie store where he also sold ties of his own design, under the label "Polo". He later purchased the name from Hilton. Lauren has since grown his fashion empire into a billion-dollar business.
In 1970 Ralph Lauren won the City Award for his menswear line created exclusively for teen heartthrob Andrew McLean. Around that same time he released a line of women's suit that were tailored in a classic men's style, which was when the first Polo emblem was seen. It was on the cuff of the women's suit.
Ralph Lauren released Polo's famous short sleeve mesh shirt with the Polo logo in 1972. It came out in 24 colors. It became an overnight classic. In 1984 he transformed the Rhinelander Mansion, former home of the photographer Edgar de Evia and Robert Denning, into the flagship store for Polo Ralph Lauren. Sometime in early 1987, Lauren was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. In April of that year, he underwent surgery to remove the tumor, and made a full recovery.
On June 11, 1997, Polo Ralph Lauren became a public company, traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol RL.
Ralph and his wife, Ricky, have two sons and a daughter: Andrew Lauren (b. 1969 in New York City, New York), David Lauren (b. 1971) and Dylan Lauren (b. May 1974 in New York City). David is an executive at Polo Ralph Lauren and Dylan owns and operates an upscale candy store, Dylan's Candy Bar, at 60th Street and Third Avenue in Manhattan. Ricky appeared on the television show Martha on December 10 2006 and stated that her son Andrew is in the "movie business".
In 2003, Lauren's nephew Greg Lauren announced his engagement to actress Elizabeth Berkley. Lauren designed and created outfits for the entire wedding party (including Berkley's wedding dress) to wear. Berkley wore a silk sheath dress with pearled spaghetti straps while Lauren wore a white tuxedo jacket and a black bow tie.
Lauren is the subject of several biographies.
Lauren is also well known as a collector of classic automobiles. His cars have won best in show at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance multiple times. His collection was recently displayed at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. He owns a Ferrari 250 GTO, a McLaren F1 GTR LM, and, more recently, a Bugatti Veyron among others.

Lacoste is headquartered in Paris. Lacoste currently has its production capital in Troyes, France, though they delegate production of international clothing to numerous factories in over 12 countries around the world, including those found in Peru, Morocco, Indonesia, Romania and Italy. History
After he retired from tennis, René Lacoste founded La Chemise Lacoste in 1933 with André Gillier, the owner and President of the largest French knitwear manufacturing firm at the time. They began to produce the revolutionary tennis shirt Lacoste had designed and worn on the tennis courts with the crocodile logo embroidered on the chest. Although the company claims this as the first example of a brand name appearing on the outside of an article of clothing, the "Jantzen girl" logo appeared on the outside of Jantzen Knitting Mills' swimsuits as early as 1921. In addition to tennis shirts, Lacoste produced shirts for golf and sailing. In 1951, the company began to expand as it branched from "tennis white" and introduced color shirts. In 1952 the shirts were exported to the United States and advertised as "the status symbol of the competent sportsman", influencing the clothing choices of the upper-class.

In 1963, Bernard Lacoste took over the management of the company from his father René. Significant company growth was seen under Bernard's management. When he became president, around three hundred thousand Lacoste products were sold annually. The Lacoste brand reached its height of popularity in the US during the late 1970s and became the signature 1980's "preppy" wardrobe item, even getting mentioned in Lisa Birnbach's Official Preppy Handbook of 1980. The company also began to introduce other products into their line including shorts, perfume, optical and sunglasses, tennis shoes, deck shoes, walking shoes, watches, and various leather goods.
In the United States in the 1970s and 1980s, IZOD and Lacoste were often used interchangeably because starting in the 1950s, IZOD produced clothing known as IZOD Lacoste under license for sale in the U.S. This partnership ended in 1993, when Lacoste regained exclusive U.S. rights to distribute shirts under its own brand. In 1977, Le Tigre Clothing was founded in an attempt to directly compete with Lacoste in the US market, selling a similar array of apparel, but featuring a tiger in place of the signature Lacoste crocodile.
More recently, Lacoste's popularity has surged due to French designer Christophe Lemaire’s work to create a more modern, upscale look. In 2005, almost fifty million Lacoste products sold in over one hundred and ten countries. Its visibility has increased due to the contracts between Lacoste and several young tennis players, including American tennis star Andy Roddick, French rising young prospect Richard Gasquet and Swiss Olympic gold medalist Stanislas Wawrinka. Lacoste has also begun to increase its presence in the golf world, where noted 2 time Master champion, José María Olazábal and Scottish golfer Colin Montgomerie have been seen sporting Lacoste shirts in tournaments.
Bernard Lacoste became seriously ill in early 2005, which led him to transfer the presidency of Lacoste to his younger brother and closest collaborator for many years, Michel Lacoste. Bernard died in Paris on March 21, 2006.
As of 2006, Lacoste licenses its trademark to various companies. For example, Devanlay owns the exclusive worldwide clothing license, Pentland Brands has the exclusive worldwide license to produce Lacoste footwear, Procter & Gamble owns the exclusive worldwide license to produce fragrance, and Samsonite holds the worldwide license to produce Lacoste bags and small leather goods.
In June 2007, Lacoste introduced their very first e-commerce site for the US market.
