Barbour Bedale Parka: Everything You Need to Know
The Barbour Bedale parka is the new kid on the block when it comes to Barbour icons, and Sam has been putting this revamped classic through its paces. Sam has conducted a thorough evaluation, looking into the parka's features and, most crucially, answering the burning question: how does it vary from the original Bedale? Is it a modern adaptation or a departure from a classic? Sam has the answers, so let's get started.

Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear, and welcome to another instalment of Barbour icons. This is the series where we take a deep dive into Barbour's most classic, timeless, and iconic styles. Now today we're looking at an icon reworked, we absolutely love the Bedale jacket, and so do you, it must be up there as one of our most popular styles that we stock from Barbour. And this season, Barbour has reworked the classic Bedale into the new Bedale Parka. You can clearly see the design influence from the original Bedale and how they've really ramped it up for something that's super, super great for colder weather and wetter weather as well. So, as always, we're going to have a look at the fit, the features, and the styling of this fantastic little jacket. So let's get straight into it.
How is the Bedale Parka Similar to the Original?
So, what do we recognise on the Bedale Parka from the original Bedale? Well, it's still made out of the 6oz waxed cotton, which, as we all know, is brilliant; it's weatherproof, it ages beautifully, you can rewax it, look after it, it'll last you for life. You're still going to get the two bellows pockets at the bottom, which have fantastic storage capacity. Nice little bit of embroidery on there as well, just for a subtle bit of branding, and the two moleskin-lined hand warmer pockets are just essential, they are ideal. Once you have a jacket with these on, you'll never want to go back; they are so good for keeping your hands warm, especially in winter. As far as the similarities from there, that's kind of where it stops, you've still got the nice tartan lining and the drip strip, as they call it, which you'll see in the classic Bedale, but everything else is new, it's all reworked.
What Features Does the Barbour Bedale Parka Have?
So, starting from the top, you'll obviously get a very practical hood which is great for that all-weather round protection. It comes with a drawcord as well, so you can really cinch it in, and you can really get that fit perfect to protect you from the elements. Brass hardware, a classic on Barbour, you've got these nice branded plackets all the way down, nice hefty press studs, and underneath their brilliant two-way brass zip. Super hefty, super reliable, it's a great little feature.
In terms of internal pockets, you have got one, a little velcro pocket to the inside, which adds a nice bit of practicality, keep your valuables in there, but really, with pockets as big as these on the outside, you don't need any more. Now this jacket as a whole has got a very nice, lightweight wadding which just gives it a little bit of extra warmth, a little bit of extra padding, just to keep you warm so it definitely is tailored more to the autumn winter season, you definitely probably wouldn't be wearing this in spring summer, as you can do with the normal Bedale, just because it is partially wadded, it's not too hefty but it's just enough to keep you toastie.
How Does the Bedale Parka Fit?
So in terms of fit, the Bedale, just like it's ordinary variant is true to size, it's easy to wear, I'm a medium wearing a medium, there's definitely still a nice bit of room under here to layer so if it did get really cold, a sweater under here, it's going to be no problem at all. I mean, this style doesn't interact with their liners or their hoods, obviously, it's already got one. It doesn't need the liner because it's got the padding, but fit-wise, it's just normal, go for your usual size, and you will be right as rain.
How to Style the Parka
So, in terms of styling the Bedale, it is timeless, it's easy, and it's probably going to go over every casual outfit you can throw at it. So weatherproof, it's just going to be a really dependable jacket, of course, you can dress it up with all the Barbour accessories. I'd probably go with one of their lovely lambswool and cashmere scarves, in the matching classic tartan to the lining, that's just proper classic Barbour, definitely an essential for the winter.
