How does the Barbour Beacon fit, and should I size up?

This is the top question all of our customers ask. The Beacon has an extremely slim, tailored fit. As it is tight across the shoulders and under the arms, we recommend that all of our customers go up one size in this Barbour jacket.

Is this the exact Barbour jacket Daniel Craig wore in Skyfall?

Well, it is, and it isn’t. The Beacon you are looking at is the commercial continuation of the one Daniel Craig wore in Skyfall. The one Craig actually wore was a limited edition Barbour Beacon Heritage X To Ki To Sports jacket (a collaboration with Japanese designer Tokito Yoshida). When that line came to an end, Barbour released the Beacon Sports jacket to be a permanent in their collection.

Is the Beacon jacket warm enough for winter?

The Barbour Beacon is an uninsulated wax jacket, so it is not appropriate for winter months. The jacket is essentially a waxed blazer that is great for the Spring and Autumn months as a transitional piece. However, if you did want to wear the Beacon Sportsjacket as your winter coat, there is nothing stopping you from sizing up an extra size to allow room for layering heavy knitwear.

What is the difference between the Beacon and the Barbour Lutz?

We find that for our customers who struggle with the Beacon's restrictive nature, the Barbour Lutz is a great alternative. Both jackets offer a tailored blazer look; the only differences are that the Lutz has a much more regular fit and doesn’t have the leather cuff/collar details.

What are the key design features?

Our customers often ask what sets the Beacon Sports apart from other Barbour wax jackets. In our opinion, the standout details include:

  • A blazer-style silhouette that can be dressed up or down, along with the collar folded down as lapels, or buttoned all the way up with a triangular throat latch.
  • 100% leather-faced collar, leather cuff edges, and leather pocket trim.
  • Heavy-duty 8oz waxed cotton patches on the elbows and shoulders.
  • Two zippered "poacher pockets" on the lower back of the jacket.
