How does the Beaufort fit? Is it true to size?

The Barbour Beaufort jacket is a relaxed traditional fit. The jacket features raglan sleeves (no shoulder seam) to allow wearers freedom of movement. The jacket is designed this way as it was traditionally used to fit over tweed sporting coats and heavy knitwear.  Most of our customers buy their usual size in this Barbour jacket for a comfortable fit that allows for layering. However, if you want a more city-sleek look, you may decide to size down one.

What is the difference between the "Classic" Beaufort and the standard Beaufort?

The difference between the jackets all comes down to the finish of the cotton and the tartan lining. Classic Beaufort: This jacket is made with Sylkoil cotton, which has a matte, slightly textured finish and features the muted Classic Tartan (olive and brown tones).

Standard Beaufort: The standard edition is made with Thornproof dress cotton, which is smooth, slightly lustrous/shiny, and features the Ancient Tartan (brighter greens and yellows).

What is the big zipper pocket on the back of the Beaufort for?The big zip pocket on the back of the Beaufort is known as a game pocket. Traditionally, the jacket's pocket was designed for hunters to store small game while walking the fields, hence why the pocket is fully lined and is made from easy-to-wipe-clean nylon. Nowadays, most city folk use the pocket to carry their daily newspaper or umbrella, as it saves the need for a backpack.

Is the Beaufort warm enough for winter?

The Barbour Classic Beaufort is made from 6oz waxed cotton, which is great for rain and wind, but on its own it offers little insulation against freezing temperatures. To make your Beaufort more appropriate for winter months and all-year wear, we recommend purchasing one ofBarbour’s zip-in liners.

Can you wash a Beaufort jacket?

We highly recommend you do not wash your Barbour Beaufort jacket. Machine washing your classic Beaufort could permanently destroy the wax coating and the cotton. To clean your wax jackets, we recommend using a sponge and cold water to remove any dirt, and then allow the jacket to air dry in a cool room.
