Product Q&A's

Should I size down in the Barbour Classic Bedale, or is it true to size?

The Barbour Classic Bedale jacket has a regular fit, thanks to it originally being designed for horse riding back in the 1980s. The jacket purposefully has a shorter cut ( around the hips) and is generous in the chest and arms to allow for flexible movement.

What is the difference between the Bedale and the Beaufort?

The main difference between the Bedale and Beaufort comes down to their lengths and a few key features.

Bedale: This jacket is shorter in length as mentioned above and has elasticated wind-cuffs inside the sleeves. The back of the jacket also has snap-vents for whilst your sitting or driving.

Beaufort: Now the Beaufort is, on average, about 3 inches longer in the body depending on your size, has adjustable storm cuffs and has a large game pocket across the lower back.

Is the Bedale jacket fully waterproof?

The Barbour Bedale jacket is highly water-resistant but is not 100% waterproof. The 6oz waxed cotton works wonders at brushing off rain showers. However, prolonged exposure to a heavy downpour will eventually lead to water seeping in due to the jacket not having taped seams or a synthetic membrane.

Is the Barbour Bedale warm enough for winter?

If you live in a sub-zero climate, then no, the Barbour Bedale will not be an appropriate winter jacket, at least not on its own. The Bedale is designed to be a transitional jacket, meant for Spring and Autumn. However, you can easily turn it into an all-year-round jacket with Barbour’s zip-in liners, which will provide an extra layer of insulation in the winter months.

Can I wash the Bedale in a washing machine?

You should never wash any of your Barbour waxed jackets in a washing machine. Doing so will result in permanent damage to the wax coating and internal lining. To clean your wax jacket, use a damp sponge to gently wipe off the dirt and let the jacket air dry.
