Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear, and welcome back to another instalment of Barbour Icons. This is the series where we take a deep dive into some of Barbour's iconic and timeless styles, and today, we're bringing you something from the Steve McQueen collection. Now, most Barbour jackets we're going to think of winter, but their spring-summer jackets are not to be slept in. And, this is a style that comes back season after season. When it comes to the spring collection, we absolutely adore it, and it is, of course, the Steve McQueen Rectifier Harrington from the Barbour International collection. So, we're going to take a little look at the fit, the features, the colours, ways to style and just everything you need to know about this fantastic jacket. So let's get into it.
So, this is Barbour's take on the classic Harrington, and it's got all the features you would come to expect. Stand collar, elasticated cuffs and waist and truly just a versatile style that is so easy to wear. Dress it up, dress it down, do as you please. That's what makes this a perfect little jacket for the spring-summer season. And of course, being under the Steve McQueen moniker just makes it extra cool; that is what we really like.
Features of the Barbour Steve McQueen Rectifier Harrington Jacket
Now, feature-wise, what have we got? Well, let's do the usual, start at the top and work our way down. You've got the stand collar, and with it being Barbour, there's got to be a bit of corduroy on there as well. It's nice and soft, round, and super, super easy to wear. Throat latch, it's just a press stud, nice and easy, a bit of extra weather protection should you need it. Now, zip-wise, of course, we've got the Barbour two-way zip. Super, reliable, it's a bit lighter weight, it isn't as hefty as what you would find on the wax jackets. But still super reliable, easy to use, and being two-way as well, it makes it even easier to wear.
Pocket-wise, what do we have? Well, just two, nice and simple. Press-stud closure pockets to the side here, that is all you need on this little jacket; and then of course, to finish it off, elasticated cuffs and waist just to get that fit extra, extra nice.
Special Steve McQueen Features
There are a few nifty design features on this piece that we absolutely love, purely for their aesthetic. This is to be expected from the Barbour International Steve McQueen collection. First, there's the nice contrast button on the pocket, reminiscent of when McQueen wore wax jackets for motorcycle riding—a little nod to the USA flag. The tonal branding on the arm includes Barbour International and the Steve McQueen signature underneath. Each colourway keeps the branding super tasteful—not too shouty, but those who know, know. There is also subtle ventilation under the armpits in red, white, and blue—these details are super subtle and functional, blending form and function perfectly.
What Colours is the Rectifier Available in?
Okay, so colour-wise, here at Michael Stewart Menswear, we do all three; that is how much you and we absolutely love this jacket. So, navy as I'm wearing or we've got military brown, which is just your classic beige and of course, a nice sage green. Super, super easy, they've all got the nice little bit of contrast corduroy on the inside of the collar, all with the tonal badging and of course all with the contrast buttons and underarm ventilation as well. Three super, super easy, versatile colours, really, whatever you pick, whatever your poison is, you can pick one, you can pick all three. These jackets will last you for ages, and with them being such nice, easy-to-style colours, you can wear them with pretty much any outfit.
How Does the Barbour International Rectifier Harrington Jacket Fit?
Okay, so being a spring-summer jacket, this thing has a nice, easy-going, true-to-size fit. I'm a medium, I'm wearing a medium now, and that is just over a t-shirt. To be honest, I did try this on earlier with a jumper, and I found it a little bit on the snug side, but again, it is just meant for some really lightweight layering. Over the top of a shirt, over a t-shirt, enough said that would do the job quite nicely. If you're thinking I'm going to wear this with slightly heavier stuff, if you're in a bit of a colder climate, then maybe just size up one, just to give yourself that little bit of extra room to move, but truly and honestly, I do believe that regular size, take your normal size, you're going to be absolutely good to go. As I said, I'm a medium, wearing a medium feels comfortable, and I feel like it looks right on me.
