Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewarts Menswear, and today we're going to take a look at a new variation of the Bedale jacket. Now, when it comes to Bedale’s, loyal fans of Barbour know, we're going to associate that with waxed cotton, but this season, for this autumn-winter, they’ve brought it out in a lovely wool check. It just uses classic British gentleman, we absolutely love it, so let's take a look at the fit, the features, and all the little details about this fantastic new version of the Barbour Bedale.

Get to Know the Barbour Wool Bedale Jacket

So the wool Bedale boasts everything that the classic Bedale does, it has the same sort of fit and form and function, it's got the Corduroy collar, a nice regular relaxed fit, two hand warmer pockets on there, two bellow pockets towards the bottom, but the main difference is the material they’ve used to make it. So this is actually made with moon wool tweed, so it's got a lovely, rich British heritage behind it, and the check, it just oozes classic country, which is the perfect match for this country-style jacket. However it is still feeling nice and modern, it's got all the hefty hardware and tack that you'd expect on a Barbour jacket but this version also comes with a nice, sort of slightly padded, slightly wadded quilted lining as well which has a little bit of warmth obviously you're not going to get the same weather protection from the wool as you would do with wax cotton but really this jacket’s a nice little showpiece, it's definitely something a bit smarter, a bit different and a bit ‘stand out’ and that is one of the main reasons why we love it.

How Does the Wool Bedale Fit?

So fit-wise, as mentioned earlier, it is very similar to the usual Bedale, it's regular fitting and true to size. Those jackets usually go by sort of UK chest sizes, 38, 40, 42, etc, the wool one is just size medium to 2 XL, or that’s the size that we stock anyways. As always I'm a 38 chest, sort of 80 kilograms 5 “11…. and er, 5”10 actually and, adding extra inches where we can, and in this one I'm wearing a size medium, so nice and true to size, it's got a nice bit of room underneath obviously I’m just wearing a t-shirt now but I can wear this with a jumper, I can definitely layer it up a little bit, add a little bit of extra warmth but really as a jacket goes it fits absolutely spot on, stick to your usual size.

How to Style the Barbour Wool Bedale

Styling-wise, the possibilities are absolutely endless. Just because it's tweed and wool, don't think it's all old fuddy-duddy; it definitely has that nice classic element, but it can be dressed up, it can be dressed down. You can definitely wear it over some more formal things, but certainly with a nice pair of jeans, some boots, definitely pairing it with some more casual pieces of Barbour, we could go for a nice Barbour corduroy shirt, accessorise with some nice Barbour tartan bits, anything like that, you're gonna be able to make this really, really versatile. The main thing for this jacket is it's a little bit different; it's definitely a key piece, a standout piece for your wardrobe, so maybe not an everyday jacket, but it's something for when the special occasions roll around and you want something that is truly British, truly iconic, and truly Barbour.

Things to Take Away

So there we have it, that is everything you need to know about the new Wool Bedale, it's a classic reworked, and we absolutely love that. It's made from a lovely wool tweed from the Moon Mill, so it's oozing with British heritage, more so than it already can do by being a Barbour jacket anyway. So now we have it, that is everything you need to know. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
