The Legacy: How Massimo Osti Changed Menswear Forever
To understand how C.P. Company came to be, you have to go back to Bologna, Italy, in 1971.
Founded by legendary graphic designer Massimo Osti, the brand began as Chester Perry before rebranding to C.P. Company in 1978. Osti approached fashion not as a tailor, but as an engineer and industrial designer. Osti drew inspiration from military field jackets, heavy-duty workwear, and protective sports gear, disassembling the garments to see how function could drive form. Because of this process, he was responsible for two revolutionary breakthroughs that reshaped outerwear as we know it today.
- Garment Dyeing: Instead of making clothes from pre-dyed cloth, Osti perfected the complex technique of dyeing fully constructed garments made from multiple un-dyed fabrics. The result? A depth, richness of colour, and soft patina impossible to achieve through traditional methods.
