Hi guys, Sam here from Michael Stewart Menswear, and today we're going to take a look at Loake. You're not going to be looking at my feet, though. Don't worry, today we're going to be talking about the luggage. Now Loake does a fantastic collection of baggage, accessories, and they're really, really, actually fantastic. We’ve stocked them for a couple of years now, last year you guys went absolutely mad on them, we couldn't keep them in stock long enough, so what I thought we'd do is we go through a few of the key pieces and explain them and sort of go through why you need these to be part of your luggage when you go away, or for when you go into work, honestly they are truly fantastic. Let's get into it.
The Loake Waterloo Leather Rucksack
So, let's start with the one that I've already got in my hand, and that is the Waterloo rucksack. This item is made entirely of leather on the outside, and it is wonderfully soft and supple. Now, what you're going to get with that is you're going to get wear, you’re going to get patina, you're going to get age, and that's what it's all about. A little bit like when we talk about Barbour wax jackets, the more you wear it, the more you use it, it gets character. This is exactly the same thing. The leather will tell a story about your travels. Now that sounds all very poetic, but the actual fact is, it just looks fantastic when it's got a bit of age and a bit of use.
Beautifully soft, lovely and supple, and very, very practical. Nice padded strap, so comfy on the shoulder, the whole back section as well is perforated and padded also. A few little handy little extra tips as well, we have also got a loop on there, which means you can sling it over the top of some sort of roll-on luggage with the handle there. A sneaky little hidden compartment on the back as well, so you keep your valuables extra, extra safe. And then on the front there's pockets galore, we've got a front compartment, a tertiary smaller compartment, and then one big compartment at the back that has laptop storage, it's padded, it has got everything you can keep in it.
Our gaffer Richard has one of these; he takes it everywhere when we go buying in London. It weighs an absolute ton because he takes everything but the kitchen sink with him, but it's never failed him yet. It really, really is a fantastic, practical piece of kit. Great for traveling, great for a bit of carry-on, but also great for day-to-day, use it for work, a really, really great little rucksack.
Weekend Essential: The Loake Balmoral Leather Holdall
Now, if you're going away for the weekend and you need something a little bit bigger, something a little bit more substantial, you’ve got a lot of stuff to take, then let me introduce the Balmoral Weekend bag. Now this thing is an absolute beast, again made of the same lovely soft, supple leather. It’s got a lovely contrast white stitching, a bit of branding to the front, and of course the luggage tag as well, and a great level of capacity. This thing can hold all sorts, but it's a fantastic-looking piece of luggage, it's going to age beautifully, it's got some nice, hefty hardware on there as well, so you can really strap it down or loosen it to increase your storage capacity. There is also a shoulder strap included. So nice and easy to carry, lovely and easy to use, as you can see that the leather is looking absolutely beautiful already, and this is straight out of the dust bag, ready to use. We sell loads of these; these are always getting picked up, and the best thing is, it all ties in wonderfully with the rest of the luggage as well. So all comes as a nice matching set. This thing is absolutely beastly, easy to carry, easy to use, but you’re definitely going to keep all your lovely stuff inside.
Loake London Suit Carrier for the Man on a Mission
So next from our bigger pieces of Loake luggage, we have this. This is the London suit carrier. Exactly what it says on the tin, it carries your suits but in style. You can do away with those horrible fabric ones or plastic ones you get free, and get yourself sorted with one of these. It's an investment piece that will last you for ages. Again, beautiful soft, supple leather, ties in with the Balmoral, ties in with the Waterloo. It's got a lovely embossed little logo on there, a bit of brass hardware for a shoulder strap. Super, super lovely, handles nicely and soft, easy to carry, and you know, my arm’s been up for ages now, not even that heavy to say it’s 100% leather, and there are tons and tons of storage. Let's open it up, and I'll show you on the inside.
Honestly, this thing is like a wardrobe you can carry. Let's have a look in here, so of course, the main compartment for your suit, all lovely, lined with Loake monogrammed lining, absolutely stunning. Suit goes in the main compartment, and then we have pockets and pockets galore for all your lovely little extras that you’ll need to take with you. Obviously, you want to look sharp, you want to look good. Suited and booted, you can keep the suits and the boots in here. Shoulder straps in there, but we can put in, so that’s perforated, so you know, ties, accessories. A couple of big pouches here for your shoes, and it all just folds up into something lovely and easy to carry. What is not to love about this?
Loake Leather Wash Bags
Lastly, from a luggage point of view, we have this, this is the Thames wash bag. Again, the same lovely soft, supple leather. It’s got a nice bit of branding on the front, just embossed. Stunning, nice and easy, practical, you really can't go wrong with something like this, it is quality and it is great to use. The best thing is it works well with the suit carrier, it works well with the backpack, and of course, it’d look fantastic inside the Balmoral bag. You know, maybe it's just me, but to have a full matching set would be absolutely stunning. Proper luxury, proper quality, and prices as well, that won't break the bank either. So, this is the wash bag, again a stunning little piece, great size, all your essentials, you're going to be absolutely sorted on your travels.
So, in terms of luggage, that is the best of the best that we stock. There is another wash bag as well, the Severn, which hangs in your wardrobe, excellent. I don’t have any to hand right now, but they are online and in store.
How to Care for Your Loake Leather
Now obviously these are all leather products, they're going to age, they're going to wear, they're going to get better with time, but they still need looking after, they still need to be kept on top of. Like any pair of Loake shoes, they need a polish, they need a clean up now and again as well. This is where this comes in, so part of the same collection, bound in this same lovely soft, supple leather, this is one of their valet boxes.
Now we have a couple of sizes; there are some big ones, and more like a wooden chest. This is a slightly smaller, but more portable one, great to take with you places or just to keep ready to go when your shoes and luggage need a little bit of TLC, and in here, you get absolutely everything. There are cloths, there are definitely different kinds of polishes and different colours as well, and tons and tons of brushes. There's a shoe horn, there's everything you need to keep all your stuff in tip-top condition, and, you know, as I'm just kind of on one today with the matchy, matchy, it matches beautifully with everything else in this lovely luggage collection.
Things to Take Away
So there we have it, guys, that is our whistle-stop tour of the Loake luggage. It is absolutely fantastic, we get it in every single autumn-winter because it is truly just fantastic. It's not only great for yourself, but it makes brilliant gifts as well.
If you've got someone special in your life who's always travelling, always going about the places, they're going here and there for business meetings, then the London suit carrier may be an absolute winner and essential for them. Or perhaps you’re looking for something that's going to keep you sorted on day-to-day work, on the commute, then the Waterloo rucksack is essential. Or if you're looking at something to take on the weekend, then don't rule out the Balmoral holdall. That thing is hefty, it's of great quality, and it's got a fantastic storage capacity as well.
