Sergio Tacchini - More than Terrace Wear

A cultural icon of casual style and sportswear. The Italian sportswear brand left the tennis courts and entered the football stadium to join the ranks of sportswear brands that make up the casual uniform. Spring/Summer 21 is launching our biggest collection to date at Michael Stewart Menswear, so here's the run-down of the brand and why you should be shopping Sergio Tacchini.

Founded in 1966 by Italian tennis champion, Sergio Tacchini, the brand gained immediate recognition for a unique use of bold colouring in their garments, quite the shock for a sport founded on the traditional Wimbledon whites. Partnering with the likes of John McEnroe, Pete Sampras and Martina Navratilova, Tacchini has been cemented as a sportwear brand who do things differently both on and off the court. It's no wonder that much like Fred Perry (who shares similar origin stories) that the impact the brand has on fans is wide-spread and engrained into sub-culture.

When the Casuals emerged in the late 70's and early 80's from the British working class and football terrace scenes they took up European sportwear brands as their go to look. Incredibly stylish, they established a new fashion based around designer track suits, trainers and ultimately the brands that created them like Sergio Tacchini and Fila. The casuals dedication to football, often violent rivalries with the opposing teams fans and style built the Casual into an equally loved and un-loved icon fit for representation on the big screen in films such as 'The Firm, 2009' & 'Awaydays, 2008'.

For this season we're stocking our larges collection to date featuring iconic styles such as the Supermac in both polo & tee as well as a range of Tracksuits, polos, tees and accessories in classic or bold colourings. You can shop the entire range here.

How Does Sergio Tacchini Fit?

Fairly regular fitting and true to size. I'm a medium across most of our brands and wear just that in Sergio. We'd recommend considering that tee's can come up a little on the slimmer side, espeically when compared to the polos. Going up a size in these will ensure a relaxed fit if you like your clothing a little looser.

Coming in at a fantastic price, Sergio Tacchini is the way to get all the retro vintage styling without spending over the odds. And with such good prices, there is no excuse not to stock up on all their must-have styles!

How Can I Style Sergio Tacchini?

If going full casual and getting suited up head to toe in tracksuit isn't your style, we think the t-shirts, polos and track tops can pair easily with your favourite pair of jeans and some retro inspired trainers such as these fantastic styles from Saucony. Alternatively the track shorts and bottoms make ideal leisurewear and always look good with a Sergio t-shirt in complimentary colour! Ultimately Sergio Tacchini is made for those off-duty days!
