The Overshirt - An Underrated Essential
The weather as of late has been less than ideal. Warm and uncomfortable one minute, cold and wet the next. I often find it's far too warm and inconvenient to be lugging around a bulky coat or jacket on the off-chance it gets a little chillier. However, I've recently found a fantastic alternative - the overshirt.
What is an Overshirt?
Essentially a very light jacket, overshirts come in a variety of fabrics, shapes and styles. Some have button and zip closures and some are even just a heavier weight fabric yet resemble a style of shirt we are all familiar with. The aim of the game with wearing an oversized shirt is to incorporate them into your outfit as layers. Multiple lightweight layers creates a fantastic put-together look and provide more versatility and the same level of warmth than a single jacket or coat.
How to Wear Overshirts:
This season we are stocking a range of these practical wardrobe essentials and want to share with you a couple of our favourites and what we'd wear with them!

Tommy Hilfiger has two takes on the overshirt this season. Firstly, their Corduroy Over Shirt has a fantastic relaxed look and fit and will bring together any casual outfit. Finish the look by wearing it over a white Polo Shirt, Replay jeans and trainers like the Mako Runners from Paul & Shark.
Their second Overshirt - The Peached Nylon - is a smarter option with a very clean and modern look. Beautifully soft to the touch and very lightweight, we'd combine this with a crisp white shirt such as the Ferryhill from Barbour and some smarter trousers. A great smart/casual look for the modern professional that won't weigh you down!

Ok, so these aren't exactly an overshirt. But Gant's heavier-weighted cotton or 'The Beefy Oxford' as they've coined it, is a brilliant piece to layer. Featuring a button-down collar, and chest pocket with Gant embroidery this shirt has all the hallmarks of a classic oxford, the heavier cotton it's crafted from makes it ideal to layer over a t-shirt to add that extra layer of warmth when needed. So there is our run-down of the overshirt.
