Barbour Border Wax Jacket in Sage

Designed in the early 1980s by Chairman Dame Margaret Barbour, the Barbour Border Waxed Jacket is named to represent the land border between Scotland and England that founder John Barbour crossed in 1870 to get to North East England, where Barbour is still based. This style has been crafted with taller gentlemen in mind, thanks to its longer length and lengthened sleeves.

Made with medium-weight 6oz waxed cotton, the Border® is fully interactive with an optional hood and zip-in thermal liners, making it a reliable jacket all year round. Traditional design features such as two generously sized bellows pockets, two moleskin-lined handwarmer pockets, classic corduroy collar with throat flap studs and a large brass ring-pull zip with 'Stormfly' front close give this jacket a timeless look, popular with all ages and for a range of lifestyles.

Product Q&A's

Should I size down in the Border jacket?

The Barbour Border jacket has a relaxed, generous fit. Thanks to its longer length and spacious cut, it’s great to throw over a suit and easily covers the hem of any standard blazer or sports coat, making it a favourite for city commuters.

How does the Barbour Border fit compared to the Beaufort and Bedale?

To answer the question briefly, the Barbour Border jacket is the longest in Barbour’s heritage collection and has an incredibly generous fit when compared to the Bedale and Beaufort. You can find our full breakdown of the three Barbour jackets in our review.

Is the Border jacket good for short people?

Generally speaking, if you’re under 5’9”, then the Border jacket probably isn’t your go-to in terms of Barbour wax jackets. It was designed for taller individuals or those who require full upper-thigh coverage. So, if you’re shorter than 5’9”, the jacket might be overwhelmingly long for you, and we would recommend looking at the Beaufort instead.

What are the internal "poacher's pockets", and are they removable?

The historical purpose of the poacher's pocket was to give hunters and poachers a hidden space that was large enough to carry small game such as rabbits and birds back from the fields without the need for an extra bag or drawing attention to what they had caught. Nowadays, unless you are an active hunter, the pocket is an ideal place to store scarves, gloves and your winter hat. It is also important to note that the pockets are nylon-lined and completely detachable via press-studs,  meaning you can take them out and wash them easily.

Is the Border jacket warm enough for winter?

While the Barbour Border is made from a 6oz waxed cotton making it great for water and wind resistance, it offers very minimal insulation. We recommend that if our customers plan to use the Border as their primary winter jacket, they invest in one of Barbour's zip-in liners.
