The 502 takes everything you love about the 501® Original Jeans and refines it. In the 502, you get extra breathing room through the seat and thigh for all-day comfort, which then transitions into a clean, sharp taper down to the ankle.
Rendered in "Rock Cod"—a rich, deep indigo wash with clean styling—these jeans bridge the gap between casual days and smart-casual nights. Built with a hint of comfort stretch, they move with you instead of against you, offering the rigid look of classic denim without the stiff, restrictive break-in period. How do the 502 Taper jeans fit through the legs?

The Levi's® 502™ is a "Regular Taper". Which means the jeans give you enough room and comfort through the seat and thigh (similar to a classic 505 straight fit) but gradually narrow from the knee down to the ankle for a tailored silhouette.

Will the Rock Cod wash shrink in the wash?

Due to the 502s being pre-washed during manufacturing and containing elastane, they are considered pre-shrunk already. They won’t experience the massive shrinkage of raw "Shrink-to-Fit" denim. However, exposing them to high heat in the washer or dryer can still cause a minor 5% shrinkage, which will be mostly noticeable in the length.

Are 502 Levi’s true to size or should I size up?

The majority of our customers find the 502 true to size in the waist and length. Due to the fabric including 2% elastane, the waistband has a little bit of flexibility. If you prefer a highly locked-in fit, go true to size; if you are between waist sizes, opt for your smaller size as the denim will relax slightly with wear. But keep in mind that there is about 5% shrinkage after your first wash.

How do I prevent the 502 dark indigo dye from bleeding?

Dark indigo dyes like Levi’s Rock Cod are prone to transferring when brand new. To lock the colour in and protect your light-coloured items, we recommend:

  • Wash them inside out before your first wear.
  • Wash them alone or with dark colours.
  • Wash them in cold water and consider adding a splash of white vinegar to the first rinse to help set the dye.

What is the difference between the 502 Taper and the 512 Taper?

While both are tapered Levi jeans, the 502 is a Regular Taper, and the 512 is a Slim Taper. The 502 offers more room in the thighs and has a slightly wider leg opening, making the jeans ideal for athletic builds or those who want comfort. Whereas the 512 is noticeably narrower from the thigh down to a tighter ankle opening.
