The Barbour Ashy jacket is a reworking of the contemporary style Bedale, manufactured in a robust, yet stylish wax finish. The Ashby Jacket is a timeless and practical jacket, ready for the winter season. Constructed in the signature Barbour waxed cotton, equipped with a matte finish, for that lived-in feel, which provides maximum comfort.

The Ashby provides you with a more tailored fit than the Bedale, while still allowing you with room for further winter layering, includes the classic feature of a fly front with stud fastenings, a smartly designed sit down corduroy collar, with neck strap, hand warmer pockets at an angle, and two generous sized pockets.

A garment Inspired by Barbour's trademark Scottish heritage, the iconic classic tartan trims throughout, the Ashby's inner lining and inside pockets, add an unmistakable, genuine authenticity. This very functional jacket showcases an useful front zip, and happens to be fully compatible with optional zip-in liners from Barbour (not included), making this item brilliantly versatile, and more than ideal for daily use. Pair with the optional Warm Liner as pictured to make this adaptable jacket perfect for winter wear!

How does the Barbour Ashby fit, and should I size up?

The Barbour Ashby jacket has a tailored fit when compared to more traditional Barbour jackets such as the Bedale. The jacket has a closer cut in the body and also a slightly longer silhouette. Though the Ashby is a tailored fit, many of our customers find the jacket true to size and take their usual size for a sharp, modern look. If you prefer a more traditional-looking Barbour jacket or want plenty of room for layering in the winter months, you may want to size up one.

What is the difference between the Barbour Ashby and the Bedale?

You might look at the Ashby and Bedale and think they look the same but the jackets are actually designed for different styles and body types.

Ashby: This jacket has a modern tailored fit, it’s slightly longer in the body and has slimmer sleeves with polyester lining. The Barbour Ashby jacket is designed to be as comfortable in the city as it is in the countryside.

Bedale: The Bedale jacket has a more traditional boxy fit; it is also shorter in the body and sleeves when compared to the Ashby. This jacket is made for equestrian and country living.

Is the Ashby Jacket Waterproof?

The Barbour Ashby is made from 6oz Sylkoil waxed cotton, which is water-resistant but not completely waterproof. The jacket is designed to repel rain and wind, but because it lacks taped seams, prolonged heavy downpours will eventually cause water to seep in, especially if you are not up to date on your rewaxing.

Can I zip a liner into the Barbour Ashby?

Yes, the Ashby jacket is compatible with Barbour’s zip-in liners. We recommend buying the liners as an extra layer of warmth for the colder, winter months or if you live in a cooler climate.

Does the Ashby jacket come with a hood?

No, the jacket does not come with a built-in hood. However, the collar features hidden press studs that you can attach a waxed hood to for maximum protection from the elements. We recommend buying the hood at the same time as your jacket so the waxed cotton can age and patina at the same time.
